Nishi’s Story - a little true story .
Mosquitoes are a type of small fly species of insects.
It causes a virus called dengue. It has 6 legs, 2 wings and 48 teeth.
The female mosquito, a species of
Insects of this small fly species have survived on Earth for over 2500 years.
Because, there is a big difference in the lifespan of male and female mosquitoes. Male mosquitoes usually drink flower honey and have no inclination towards human blood. But after mating, the female mosquito has to drink blood for sufficient energy to produce eggs. Naturally female mosquitoes can easily identify humans.
There is nothing more to be said about how annoying the mosquito panpanani is to the ears. But why do these bloodthirsty insects make such annoying noises near human ears?
"The sound we hear of mosquitoes is basically the sound of their wings fluttering," said Michael Rihle, a professor of entomology at the University of Arizona in the United States. This word is absolutely mild. So when the mosquito only comes to our ears, it can be heard. '
Usually we hear the sound of female mosquito wings.
‘From a distance, female mosquitoes can detect carbon dioxide emitted by humans. With this carbon dioxide, the female mosquitoes set their target. '
Simply put, mosquitoes crawl more on the side of our heads; Because, we emit carbon dioxide through this part of the body.
Female mosquitoes test the blood of humans and other animals with test sensors on their legs to see if they are suitable for them. Some studies have shown that ‘O’ group blood mosquitoes are more preferred. However, many researchers do not agree.
According to him, issues like genetics and diet of the person concerned also play an important role here. Depending on the body odor of some people, which mosquito will be more attracted to them and which mosquito will be less attracted. Male mosquitoes are more attracted to females that have less diverse bacteria in their skin.
Female mosquitoes are more attracted to those whose skin color is darker. The female mosquito flutters its wings four to five hundred times per second and the frequency of this sound is 450-500 Hz. The frequency of male mosquito sounds is higher than that of female mosquitoes. This panpan sound of mosquito sounds very annoying to us but it is sweet to male mosquito! When the male mosquito is looking for the female mosquito for mating, they choose a mate after hearing this word
There are two species of Aedes mosquito- 1) Aedes aegypti and 2) Albopictus, mainly spreading the dengue virus. Aedes mosquitoes grow in clear water stored in containers. It is usually concentrated in the rainy season, which increases the incidence of dengue.
Mosquitoes belong to the genus Culicidae in the genus Diptera. Important species of this genus are Anopheles, Mansonia, Culex, Aedes, Psorophora and Haemogogus. Mosquitoes are carriers of many pathogens including malaria, gonorrhea, yellow fever, dengue, viral encephalitis and some skin diseases. The female mosquito, like a needle, sucks the blood of vertebrate hosts with its mouths suitable for cutting and sucking. Drinking blood before laying is essential for mosquitoes. Male mosquitoes eat flower-fruit extract. Of the more than three thousand species of mosquitoes in the world, about 116 species of mosquitoes have been identified from Bangladesh.
Aedes mosquito
In Bangladesh, four species carry the malaria virus. Species Anopheles dirus, An. philippinensis, An. minimus and an. sundaicus. The other four species of mosquitoes that are thought to be carriers of malaria are Anopheles aconitus, An. vagus, An. annularis and An. maculatus var willmorei. Outbreaks of malaria usually occur twice a year in Bangladesh: once in the pre-monsoon (May-June) and the next time in the post-monsoon (October-November). Culex quinquefasciatus (bancroftian type) and Mansonia species (brugian type) cause knee infections in diseases other than malaria. Aedes aegypti and Ae caused the long-hidden and recently identified viral disease dengue infection. Culex tritaeniorhynchus mosquitoes spread Japanese encephalitis caused by albopictus and other lesser known viruses.
Anopheles mosquito
Four mosquitoes, known as malaria carriers, breed in rural and suburban areas. The spread of malaria in urban areas has led to the emergence of some new suspicious mosquitoes from rural areas to the city, especially Anopheles vagus, which breeds throughout the country. Dengue-carrying mosquitoes lay their eggs in both artificial and natural reservoirs. Aedes aegypti is an urban species, but Ae. Albopictus prefers rural environments. Bacterial species of gonorrhea Cx. quinquefasciatus is ubiquitous; The prevalence of gonorrhea is highest in the north-western region of Bangladesh. About 75% of gonorrhea is Cx. quinquefasciatus stinging. Mansonia lays eggs in aquatic plants, and Cx. Paddy field preferred by tritaeniorhynchus.
In Bangladesh, instead of spraying pesticides to kill adult mosquitoes, delta macro mosquito nets are being used in many cases. This has significantly reduced the human-mosquito connection. Government employees use organophosphate (malathion) as larvae, and the municipality sprays malarial or black oil into city sewers.
Mosquito experts place great importance on proper drainage system, wetlands and ditches for successful mosquito control in the country. It is recommended to dispose of stagnant water in home containers and take care of natural reservoirs. Local scientists have identified several native species of mosquito larvae. There are also benefits from fish and various aquatic insects. Some native plant products have been shown to be mosquito repellent. A plant species capable of trapping mosquito larvae has aroused considerable interest among scientists. The inclusion of these biological controls in the National Mosquito Control Program has been recommended.
In addition to dengue, various diseases are spread through mosquito bites.
Although the rainy season is a favorite of many, it should be kept in mind that mosquito infestation also increases during this time. And mosquito bites can cause not only dengue but also chikungunya, malaria and other diseases.
Therefore, caution should be exercised to stay away from mosquito-borne diseases during coronavirus epidemics.
About the six diseases of mosquitoes.
Encephalitis: This disease is spread by mosquitoes called Culex. Its prevalence is highest in Asia, especially in Japan. Symptoms include fever and headache. Convulsions, mental imbalances and paralysis occur in one out of every two and a half people infected. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent this disease.
Zika virus: The scientific name of the mosquito that carries this disease is AIDS albopictus. It is also popularly known as 'Asian Tiger Mosquito'. Symptoms of Zika virus infection include redness of the eyes, fatigue, and muscle aches. The hope is that the majority of patients infected with the virus will recover without any serious complications. If a pregnant woman becomes infected with the virus, Zika virus can be transmitted from mother to child.
Always wear flower shirts and pants to avoid infection. Mosquito repellent should be used, ‘Mosquito repellent’ should be used. All in all, stay away from mosquito bites.
Dengue fever: We all saw the severity of this disease during the rainy season last year. The virus enters the human body through the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito. It can take three to 14 days for symptoms to appear after being infected. The symptoms are similar to flu or seasonal colds, which get better after a few days. The only thing to do to avoid this disease is to avoid mosquitoes.
Yellow fever: The carrier of this disease known as 'Yellow Fever' is also 'Aedes aegypti', the prevalence of which is mainly in Africa and America. Fever, headache, jaundice, muscle aches, etc. are the main symptoms of this disease. The disease is cured within four to seven days of infection. However, some patients are seen suffering from nose, mouth and stomach bleeding. It is important to get vaccinated before going to countries where the disease is endemic.
Chikungunya: The terrible outbreak of this disease in our country is not very old. Symptoms of the disease begin to appear within two to 14 days of the germs entering the body through mosquito bites. In addition to fever, headache, skin rash, nausea and vomiting, body aches, in particular, pain in the joints are special symptoms. Even after the disease has healed, the joint pain can last for weeks, months or even years. And the carrier of this disease is also that ‘Aedes aegypti’ mosquito.
Malaria: The female Anopheles mosquito spreads the malaria virus in the human body. The parasitic germs in the infected person's blood first infect the mosquito. Later, when the mosquito bites a healthy person, the germs also enter his body. Symptoms include fever, chills, and headache.
If these diseases are not treated at the right time, almost all of them have the potential to be fatal. Therefore, to avoid mosquito bites, aerosols, mosquito nets, coils, incense, ‘mosquito repellent’ etc. should be used as much as possible. Areas where mosquitoes can breed must be destroyed.
