 Mother Teresa (1910-1996) was a Roman Catholic nun who dedicated her life to serving the poor and needy.  He spent many years in Calcutta, India, where he founded the Missionaries of Charity, a highly religious congregation dedicated to helping those in need.  In 1989, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and became a symbol of philanthropic, selfless work.  In 2016, Mother Teresa was censored by the Roman Catholic Church as St. Teresa.

 Mother Teresa was born in 1910 in Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia.  Little is known about his early life, but at a young age he became a nun and felt the urge to serve by helping the poor.  At age 18, she was allowed to join a group of nuns in Ireland.  After a few months of training, at the Sisters of Loreto, she was then allowed to travel to India.  He took his official religious vows in 1931 and was named after St. Theresa of Lysiax, a patron saint of missionaries.

 Arriving in India, he started working as a teacher;  However, the abject poverty of Calcutta had a profound effect on him and as a result a new order called "The Missionaries of Charity" was started.  The primary goal of this mission was to take care of people whom no one else was ready to take care of.  Mother Teresa felt that serving others was a fundamental principle of the teaching of Jesus Christ.  He often quoted Jesus,

 "Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do it to me."

 He spent two particularly painful times in Calcutta.  The first was the Bengal famine of 1943 and the second was Hindu / Muslim violence in 1947 before the partition of India.  He left the convent in 1948 to live among the poorest of the poor in Calcutta.  She chose to wear a white Indian sari with a blue border out of respect for traditional Indian dress.  For many years, a small band of Mother Teresa and fellow nuns survived on meager incomes and food, often begging for funds.

 However, gradually his efforts with the poorest have been recognized and appreciated by the local population and Indian politicians.  In 1952, he opened his first home for the dead, a man who died with dignity.  Mother Teresa often spent time with those who were dying.  Some have criticized the lack of proper medical care and the refusal to give painkillers.  Again some say it gave a lot of neglected people a chance to die knowing someone would die.

 His work spread all over the world.  By 2013, there were 600 missions operating in more than 130 countries.  Their scope of work was also expanded to include orphanages and shelters in terminal illnesses.

 Mother Teresa never tried to convert them.  Appropriate religious rites for their faith were performed in his abodes.  However, he had a very strong Catholic faith and spoke out strongly against abortion, the death penalty and divorce - even his position was unpopular.  His whole life was influenced by his faith and religion, although at times he admitted that he did not feel the presence of God.

 Missionaries of Charity now has branches around the world, including in the developed world, where they work with the homeless and those living with AIDS.  In 1975, the organization was transformed into an international religious family by a decree of Pope Paul VI.

 Malcolm Muggerise wrote a book about the life of Mother Teresa in the 1980's and made a documentary called "Something Beautiful for God".

 In 1979, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in overcoming poverty and misery, which is also a threat to peace.  He did not attend the official banquet but requested that $ 192,000 be given to the poor.

 In the following years, he became more active in the Western developed countries.  He remarked that although the West was materially prosperous, there was often spiritual poverty.  "The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread."  -— Mother Teresa

 When asked to improve world peace, he replied, "Go home and love your family."

 For the last two decades of her life, Mother Teresa suffered from various health problems, but nothing disappointed her in fulfilling her mission to serve the poor and needy.  Until his last illness he was active in traveling around the world in various branches of The Missionary of Charity.  For the past few years, he has met Princess Diana in the Bronx, New York.  The two died within a week of each other.

 After the death of Mother Teresa, the Vatican began the process of beautification, the second step towards canonization and saturation.  Pope John Paul II in October 2003.  Was officially handed over to Mother Teresa.  In September 2015, Pope Francis announced:

 "Mother Teresa, in all aspects of her life, was a generous dispenser of divine mercy, making herself available for everyone through her welcome and defense of human life, those unborn and those abandoned and discarded,"

 “She bowed down before those who were spent, left to die on the side of the road, seeing in them their God-given dignity.  She made her voice heard before the powers of this world, so that they might recognize their guilt for the crime of poverty they created. "

 Mother Teresa was a living saint who offered a great example and inspiration to the world.
